CLASSES

 

The School of Christian Studies is a three-year program and holds eight classes per year; four six-week classes, two one-day elective classes and two one-day module classes. 


 
SIX-WEEK:      
Six-week courses are offered four times per year and are broken down into two groups: Core and Regular Courses.  Classes meet for two hours each week (from 7:00 -  9:00 p.m.) for six weeks, for a total of 12 hours.  The cost of the course is $30.00/single and $40.00/couple, plus the cost of the textbook and a small shipping fee.  Classes are held at various locations throughout the state.  See class locations link for more information.
  Core Courses:    
  Six-week courses required of everyone enrolled in the following programs: Pastoral, Lay, Teaching, Youth and Children.  The following categories comprise the Core Courses:
    Biblical Studies:  
    Old Testament I (B-01); Old Testament II (B-02), which is a continuation of Old Testament I; New Testament I (B-03); and  New Testament II (B-04), which is a continuation of New Testament I.
    Theological Studies:  
    Theology I (T-01) and Theology II (T-02), which is a continuation of Theology I.
  Regular Courses:    
  Six-week courses required of those individuals enrolled in the Pastoral Ministry program.  Persons enrolled in the other programs of study will take only those courses required for their course of study.  The following categories comprise the Regular Courses:
    Ministry Studies:  
    Sermon and Lesson Preparation (M-01), Discipleship (M-02), Leadership (M-03), Introduction to Pastoral Care (M-04) and Church Administration (M-05).
    Historical Studies:  
    Church History (H-01).
 
ONE-DAY:      
One-day courses are offered four times per year and are broken down into two groups: Elective and Module Studies.  Classes are in a one-day format and meet from morning until afternoon at our Parchment Valley Conference Center.  Please see the Class Locations link for more information.  The cost of these courses are $28.50/single and 40.00/couple.  Snacks and lunch are also included in the fee.
  Elective Studies:    
  One-day courses taught twice a year in April and June on a Saturday.  Classes are four hours in length and begin at 9:00 a.m., with a registration period from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  Class will end around 2:15 p.m.  Break times and lunch are designated by the instructor.
    Elective Class Titles:  
    The following courses make up the Elective Studies: Baptist Polity (E-01), West Virginia Baptist History (E-02), Worship and Music (E-03), Hospital Ministry (E-04), Weddings and Funerals (E-05), Baptism and Communion (E-06).  These courses are required of those individuals enrolled in the Pastoral Ministry program.  Persons enrolled in the other programs of study will take only those courses required for their course of study.
  Module Studies:    
  One-day courses taught twice a year in August and November on a Saturday.  Classes are six hours in length and begin at 9:00 a.m., with a registration period from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  Class will end around 4:15 p.m.  Break times and lunch are designated by the instructor.
    Module Class Titles:  
    The following courses make up the Module Studies: Teacher Training (Mod-1), Ministerial Ethics (Mod-2), Introduction to Missions (Mod-3), Conflict Management (Mod-4), Community Ministry (Mod-5), Evangelism (Mod-6).  These courses are required of those individuals enrolled in the Pastoral Ministry program.  Persons enrolled in the other programs of study will take only those courses required for their course of study.
